Two artists, Judy Regnier and Cynthia Dunn-Selph, featured at Sutter Creek Gallery in January

Two artists who recently joined the Sutter Creek Gallery cooperative are uniting for an exhibition in January.  Both Cynthia Dunn-Selph and Judy Regnier have been creating art for a good part of their lives.  Yet their experiences and media are very different.  The public is invited to meet these talented artists at a reception in their honor on Saturday, January 16, from 4 to 7 p.m.  The exhibition, however, will be on display throughout the month.
Judy Regnier is a watercolor artist who has been painting for 40 years.  She studied in both Illinois and Florida to obtain a degree in nursing.  Moving to the Bay area, she worked as a nurse and studied painting beginning with oils and acrylics.  After retiring and relocating to Northern California in 1990, she tried her hand at watercolors, which she considered a more challenging medium.

“The fun is watching what happens when the colors and water flow together and change on the paper,” she discovered as this can produce unexpected results.  Regnier continues to be excited about painting scenes from the Mother Lode.

The child of artists, Cynthia Dunn-Selph has been creating art all of her life.  She works in many mediums, including acrylics, oil pastels, encaustic, and photography, often combining these into assemblages and mixed media art. Her passion is to merge and combine different techniques to create something unique, extending her knowledge of a material, and then pushing the boundaries of that material. She has taught classes to children and adults, focusing on the aspects of process and play rather than just technique as she believes we are all artists in need of an outlet for our creativity.  Currently, Dunn-Selph teaches art classes in Pioneer at Wendy Ward's Creative Studio.

Regnier and Dunn-Selph are two of the local artists exhibiting at the cooperative located in the heart of Sutter Creek at 35 Main Street.  Besides original paintings and photographs, the gallery offers many affordable items including prints, cards, jewelry, gourds and fiber arts.  The gallery is open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  For additional information, call 209-267-0228, email, or visit
