Sutter Creek Gallery opens in new location in January

Sutter Creek Gallery is returning to Main Street, Sutter Creek, after an absence of almost a year.  In January, the gallery will be displaying local art and offering custom matting and framing services at 40B Main Street. The cooperative members are excited to have a new home and, based on comments received from the community, others are also looking forward to our return.

Moving in will take place in early January with an opening date as soon as displays are in place. Twenty artists will be showing original paintings, prints and cards, photographs, jewelry, pottery, gourds, and fiber arts. The cooperative believes that “art is for everyone” and the prices reflect that theme. New art is continuously brought into the gallery, making each visit a special experience.

The gallery provides some of the best framing services in the area with competitive prices utilizing about 75 different styles of frames and a variety of mat colors. The gallery will frame personal works of art, your favorite piece purchased elsewhere, or any artwork purchased at the gallery, all to match individual tastes and décor.

Once fully open, gallery hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Monday. Personal appointments can be arranged to view the artwork or to order framing. For information or to make an appointment call 209-267-0228.  The gallery’s website, www.suttercreekgallery.com, features individual pages on each artist and provides news about upcoming shows. Updates are also provided on the gallery’s Facebook page.

Gallery 10: "Anything but Ordinary" - A Show of New Paintings by Marleen Olive

“Anything but Ordinary” is a collection of new paintings by Marleen Olive to be shown during the month of October at Gallery 10, 15 Eureka St., Sutter Creek.  Marleen is an owner/member of the gallery and offers beautiful works in watercolor, acrylic and multi-media.

Nature continues to be the ultimate inspiration for Marleen’s paintings, with a spontaneous effort towards abstract.  Marleen values diversity in subject matter and moves freely between genres and approaches.  She has come to the conclusion that the medium and technique used matters little; it is the result that is meaningful. She is never afraid to “break the rules.”

Marleen is a current President of the Amador County Artists Association, and a board member of Amador Arts.  She believes it is important to promote all the arts and artists in our community.

There will be no reception for this show, due to Covid-19 restrictions, but everyone is welcome to visit the gallery any time Thursday-Monday, 11-5, to see these exquisite new paintings. Since Marleen is a working gallery member, she may very well be sitting at the gallery and would be delighted to talk to you about her work!

About Philippe Gandiol:

Philippe Gandiol, an award winning Northern California painter, was born and raised in France and moved to California in his early 20’s. He has painted with oils for over 30 years. He pursued an independent program of study taking classes in France, San Francisco and Sacramento and with several renowned West Coast painters. Philippe likes to paint a variety of subjects like landscapes, cityscapes, still life and figures “en plein air” or in the studio. He works as much as possible from life, believing that only in life can he find the full range of light and color he wants in his paintings and the spirit and mood of his subject matter. He is actively involved with the California artist community, art events and fundraisers. He also participated in juried art festivals in Easton, Sonoma, Carmel, Napa and Los Gatos to name a few. He teaches privately out of his studio or in the outdoor and also offers painting workshops. As an instructor, Philippe is appreciated as a thorough, supportive and inspiring mentor.

June at Gallery 10: "Creativity Celebration"

Gallery 10 is open! Hurrah! We are celebrating our return to Life with a show of work done by our artists during the Stay-at-Home order.  The quarantine gave the artists time, a commodity often lacking in our busy lives, to develop new work, new paintings, new pottery, new jewelry.

Celebrate with us by visiting the gallery on 15 Eureka Street, Sutter Creek,  Thursday-Monday, 11-4.   We are following the guidelines to keep us all safe, so grab a squirt of hand sanitizer outside our door, limit yourselves to four at a time in the gallery, and if you visit after May 27, we will have our new collection in place. The show will hang all of June. Celebrate with us!
