June at Sutter Creek Gallery: Mixed media artist Jim Glanton

"Acrylic Rose"
Jim Glanton became passionate about drawing and painting at an early age. His older sister was an artist and the two would color and paint together.  And his interest in art was encouraged by both parents and his teachers.  These early experiences must be when his whimsical side came to the fore, which is now expressed through his cards and small mixed media pieces. The artist will be featured in June at the Sutter Creek Gallery.

Glanton took a couple of art classes in college but most of his training came from working as an architectural illustrator following a stint in the Air Force.  He learned a lot by watching what the other illustrators were doing as some were quite inventive.  At this time, he started to work with and love acrylics and watercolor.  He and one of the other illustrators would paint plein air on the weekends.
Following retirement, he began developing his art and has taken part in shows throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.  His subjects range from realistic landscapes to abstract flora and fauna to fanciful mixed media works.

Glanton joined the gallery several years ago and is a member of the Amador County Artists Association.  His work has drawn many awards at the Amador County Fair.

Sutter Creek Gallery invites you to meet Jim Glanton at his reception on Saturday, June 2, starting at 2 p.m., and to view his unique artwork.  Twenty-five artists exhibit at the cooperative located in the heart of Sutter Creek at 35 Main Street.  Besides original paintings, the gallery offers photographs, fiber and glass art, gourds, ceramics, prints and cards. Framing is also available.

The gallery is open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  For additional information, call 209-267-0228, email suttercreekgallery@gmail.com, or visit www.suttercreekgallery.com.

ACAA, the Sutter Creek Gallery, and the art community as a whole, has lost a dear friend and colleague. Jim Glanton died suddenly on May 10th. He was scheduled to be the featured artist at the Sutter Creek Gallery for June and with the help of his partner, the gallery is going ahead with his scheduled exhibition, opening on Sat. June 2. We encourage all his friends and fellow artists to come by the gallery to celebrate Jim's life and his work. Jim became passionate about drawing and painting at an early age. His older sister was an artist and the two would color and paint together. His interest in art was encouraged by both parents and his teachers. These early experiences must be when his whimsical side came to the fore, which is now expressed through his cards and small mixed media pieces. Jim also is well known for his realistic landscapes and abstract florals.
