9th Annual ACAA Open Studios Art Tour and Fine Art Raffle scheduled for September 19-20

Final exams are over at the high schools, graduation ceremonies have come and gone, and students are off on their summer-time pursuits.  The Amador County Artists Association (ACAA), however, is currently preparing to raise funds to benefit next year’s students.   Plans are coming together for the free 9th annual Open Studios Art Tour and Fine Art Raffle scheduled for September 19 and 20.  Forty local artists have signed up to participate at 17 locations, a significant increase from past tours.  Many of the locations are at individual artists’ working studios while others will feature groups of 3 to 6 artists showing their work.

The Fine Art and More Raffle, featuring art donation from all the tour artists, other artists, and donations from local businesses, is held at the same time.  Tickets for these items will be sold during the tour and winners need not be present at the drawing.  Prior to the start of the tour, ACAA members will be at various events in the county to display a selection of the donated art and offer early chances to participate in the raffle.

Proceeds from the raffle are used to fund student art scholarships, an art show for high school students, and regular demonstrations of art techniques offered by the ACAA.  In 2014, over $4,000 was spent on these programs, including two $1,200 college scholarships to local high school students planning a career in the fine arts.  Information about the ACAA and its activities and programs can be accessed on the website, www.amadorartists.org.  For specific information on the Open Studios Tour or to become a sponsor, contact tour chair Karen Crane at 223-1720 or kcsoul53@yahoo.com.  This year’s tour benefactors are the Amador County Arts Council and Mother Lode Printing.
