Watercolor Artist Wendy Rogers is October's Featured Artist at Sutter Creek Gallery

Watercolorist Wendy Rogers will be featured by the Sutter Creek Gallery for the month of October. She will be honored with a reception—open to the public—on October 4, from 4 to 7 p.m., as part of the region’s First Saturday Art Trek.

Fiddletown painter Wendy Rogers is an award winning watercolorist and blogger with work in private collections throughout the country. A member of the California Watercolor Association, Rogers has been painting for over thirty years, half of those in watercolors. Most recently, two of her paintings were juried into the Stockton Art League’s 58th Exhibition at the Haggin Museum. One of these,“Jackson Butte,” received the Shirley Parkinson Memorial Award for Watercolors.

Rogers is the featured artists for the month of October at the Sutter Creek Gallery. Working with careful drawings and a limited palette of transparent hues, she often enhances her paintings with layers of prismacolor pencil—deep sky blues and purples, shadows of inky indigo, soft highlights of lightest grays and periwinkle—all serving to communicate her passion for her craft and her growing love of Nature.

With deep roots in her Native Californian soil, Rogers is inspired by the natural world, by color, and by patterns of light and shadow. “I am fascinated by complex subject matter,” she explained. “I love crisply defining sepia lines that play against soft washes of glowing light, enhancing depth and adding a sense of the mysteries of Nature. The dramatic lighting effects, foliage shapes and varying textures create vibrant contrasts.” She enjoys painting portraits and landscapes equally.

Sutter Creek Gallery invites you to visit with Wendy Rogers at the October 4 reception in her honor and view her paintings along with prints of her artwork and hand-painted cards. The reception, from 4 to 7 p.m., is part of the region’s First Saturday Art Trek. She is one of 30 local artists exhibiting at the cooperative located in the heart of Sutter Creek at 35 Main Street. The gallery is open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For additional information, call 209-267-0228 or email suttercreekgallery@gmail.com
