Paintings by Ree McLaughlan Brown
will be on exhibit at Gallery 10, 15 Eureka Street, Sutter Creek, during March
2018. A reception in Ree’s honor as
guest artist will be held at the gallery on Saturday, March 3, 2-5 PM.
“My art paints itself while I
play,” McLaughlan Brown likes to
say. “I blend alcohol inks with air,
heat, encaustic wax, pure alcohol, chemical compounds, resin and a mix of media. I love to paint on unexpected surfaces such
as stone, aluminum, plastics, porcelain, cast vinyl, exotic wood and new
discoveries. Each piece of art shares an
emotion and story to engage you.”
Ree earned a Bachelor of Arts with
a minor in Women’s Studies from Sac State during an era of activism. She sketched during her travels and visited
countless galleries in 15 European countries, setting the stage for her current
work. Ree creates art at her studio on
five acres in rural Amador County where she lives with her husband, Jeff, and a
lovable basset hound.
On a mission to “make a difference”
through her art, Ree raised funds for numerous local benefits after she retired
from Cal Fire. She is a member of the
Amador County Artists Association, the Alcohol Ink Art Society, and the online
Artist Collective. She also participates
in Art in Public Places, and several of her pieces are currently on view at the
Amador Senior Center.
All are welcome to attend the
reception in Ree’s honor on Saturday, March 3, 2-5 P.M., to meet Ree, and to
see her fascinating collection of Alcohol Ink projects. “ Alcohol Ink Art and
the Unexpected” will hang the month of March.
Gallery 10 hours are Thursday-Monday, 11-5.
