"Spring Fling" is the theme at Sutter Creek Gallery for April
Spring
has arrived. The days are warmer and our
surroundings are brighter. Trees are budding, grape vines are sprouting leaves,
and colorful blossoms dot the landscape.
Sutter Creek Gallery is marking the season with its “Spring Fling”
member show in April.
The
exhibition will open with a reception on Saturday, April 1, from 2 to 5 p.m.,
as part of the region’s Art Trek. During
the reception, we will hold a drawing for a gift certificate for 20% off a
framing order. You need not be present
to win but entries will only be accepted from 2 to 5 p.m. on April 1.
Two new
artists have recently joined the gallery.
Mary Sue Palmquist offers watercolor sea creatures. Former San Francisco Chronical photographer
Michael Maloney is showing his vivid California scenes. You can preview some of their work on our
website www.suttercreekgallery.com.
This cooperative of local artists is located in
the heart of Sutter Creek at 35 Main Street.
Besides original paintings and photographs, Sutter Creek Gallery offers
many affordable items including prints, cards, jewelry, ceramics, gourds and
fiber arts. The gallery is open daily,
except Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sutter Creek Gallery features German folk artist Janice Freischlag in March

Janice
Freischlag’s passion is to bring life to her art with color, style and textures
that stimulate all the senses. The
artist, who works in a variety of media, will be featured in March at the
Sutter Creek Gallery.
Freischlag
began with German folk art painting while living for five years in
Germany. After returning to the U.S. she
broadened her painting skills. As she
became more proficient, she started getting commissions to paint pets and other
subjects. When painting portraits,
Freischlag prefers oils because of the slower drying time.
“When I need vibrant, electric colors, I use
gouache as a medium.” Landscapes and
seascapes are often created in acrylics.
She generally paints from photographs because of the convenience and
ability to edit the content. The artist
continuously challenges herself to find more difficult subjects to capture on
canvas.
“After I’ve finished a
particularly complex painting, the feeling of accomplishment can be so
encouraging. I look at some of the work
I’ve painted over the last 27 years and I’m amazed at what I’ve achieved.”

"Birds and Blooms" is the theme at Gallery 10 in March
The artists at Gallery 10 invite
you to a celebration of spring with a display of paintings by member and
consignment artists during the month of March.
Many of our artists create works that show a love of birds and
flowers.
You will see paintings in various
mediums, including oil paintings by Sue Smith and Marilyn Eger, watercolors by
Stella Stevens, Joanne Dedge and Julie Trail, collage by Catherine Woodruff,
etchings by Susan Hayne, porcelain jewelry by Katherine Finn, pottery with a
floral motif by Margaret Kunzler, and much more!
The selection of beautiful items is
delightful! Be sure to come by for a
visit, find a gift for a friend, and enjoy the variety of art.
The show will be on display all month, with a reception
on Saturday, March 4, 2-5 P.M. at Gallery 10, 15 Eureka St., Sutter Creek. The gallery is open Thursday-Monday,

Ruth Andre is February's Featured Artist at Gallery 10
Ruth became inspired by the Western lifestyle growing up in a beautiful valley in Southern California. She studied art and design at California State University, Long Beach, and printmaking at Otis Art Institute of Parson’s School of Design in Los Angeles. Ruth became an independent artist’s representative, representing painters and photographers in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.
In 1992, Ruth took her first painting workshop with Maurice Larioux, an artist in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and she became enamored with painting.
“Painting has been a lifelong dream of mine. It is glorious to enter my studio each day, take a brush in hand, and create!" Ruth said. "My desire is for the viewer to feel as if he was just a step away and could reach out and be part of the world I paint.”
She has participated in numerous western art shows across the country, including the Yellowstone Art Museum annual art auction, the Cowboy Classics in Phoenix, the American Quarter Horse Museum show in Amarillo, Texas, the Cattlemen’s Western Art Show in Paso Robles, California, and the Dog and Pony Show in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has also proudly shown her work for nine years with the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas.

A reception in her honor will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2-5 P.M. at the gallery during the Amador Arts Art Trek. Ruth's show will hang all month at the gallery. Glass Artist Helen Wilkinson is Sutter Creek Gallery's February Artist of the Month
Her medium is glass and Helen Wilkinson turns this colorful and adaptable substance into art. Wilkinson, who has worked with glass for 37 years, will be the featured artist in February at Sutter Creek Gallery.
The artist began with stained glass, getting “my inspiration from Nature and envisioning what people might like.” Today she teaches the craft in addition to designing sun catchers and window panels. One of her specialties is designing cars and trucks as either wall art or sun catchers made in the likeness of various vehicles. These and other stained glass pieces can be custom designed to fit specific windows in a home or office.
Many of Wilkinson’s functional pieces are fashioned from fused glass, a technique that involves heating thin layers of glass until they fuse together. Additional heating can result in slumping which changes the shape of the glass into bowls, plates and other forms. She also offers an extensive line of jewelry, including fused glass pendants, earrings and pins. Bracelets, wine stoppers and pens are decorated with her own lamp-work beads, made from glass rods heated with a torch.
Come meet this versatile artist at the reception opening her show on Saturday, February 4, from 2 to 5 p.m., as part of the region’s Art Trek. Besides the items mentioned above, Wilkinson has many more unique creations on display. Sutter Creek Gallery is a cooperative of local artists located in the heart of Sutter Creek at 35 MainStreet.
