Lorra Lee Rose Demonstration at the next ACAA meeting on September 14

Lorra Lee Rose, who is known for her exquisitely feathered life-size human figures and masks, will be demonstrating at the Wednesday, September 14 meeting of the Amador County Artists Association. She will talk about the process she uses to create her stunning artwork from naturally colored feathers. Completed works will be available for viewing. The artist will also briefly review conservation laws as well as how others can collect feathers. The ACAA meets the second Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Senior Center, 229 New York Ranch Road. The public is invited and new members encouraged.

Rose originally created beaded earrings. When stocking upon supplies in San Francisco, she noticed a neighboring shop selling imported masks. Fascinated, she purchased some mask blanks and dyed feathers and was soon making her own. Meeting with success, she began collecting feathers and perfecting her techniques. Eventually, she turned exclusively to legally sourced feathers along with molted feathers obtained from a network of pet shops and aviaries. This award-winning artist has created pieces for private collections and exhibits at art festivals and museums. She will be participating in the September 17 and 18 Amador Artists Open Studios Tour.
