It is a little less than a month away for the September 19 and 20 Amador Artists Open Studios Tour. Below is information on participating artists along with images of some of their works. The tour this year will feature 41 artists at 18 locations, many more than in previous years, providing visitors with both new and returning faces.
This is the Amador County Artists Association’s only fundraiser which benefits local students through college scholarships and an annual high school art show. The ACAA website provides information on all of the participating artists along with their locations.
We hope you will help support this event which promotes local artists and the appreciation of art in Amador County!
The Ninth Annual Open Studios Tour, scheduled for September
19 and 20, is shaping up to be the best ever.
With 41 artists, half of whom are returning and the others new to the
tour, there will be something for everyone.
Many of the returning artists will be familiar to the art-going public: Howard Rees, Julie Trail, Ted Smith, Lynn
Slade, Sabina Turner and Sharon Galligan, to name just a few. There are familiar names as well among the
artists new to the tour: Anje Olmstead,
Wendy Rogers, Brad Deveraux, Donna LaVecchia and Melissa Doyel. Also on offer are lots of new faces with new
techniques and interpretations who may soon become favorites.
The art is high quality and includes watercolor, acrylic,
oil, pastels, mixed media, photography, jewelry, gourd art, sculpture, metal
art, and more. The public is invited to visit many of these artists in their
working studios, where the artist is available to show where they work and talk
one-on-one with visitors. Group
locations, with 3-6 artists gathering to show and demonstrate their techniques,
are also on the tour. Current original
works are for sale at all locations, and many artists also offer prints,
greeting cards, and other items related to their work.
The Open Studios Tour has 18 locations this year, spread
throughout Amador County. New this year
are studios in Pioneer, Amador City, and a group of four artists working in
downtown Jackson. Returning locations are in Fiddletown, Pine Grove, Sutter
Creek, and Jackson. A tour map, with all
locations and artist information, will soon be posted on the ACAA website, www.amadorartists.org. After Sept 1, a printed map/booklet can also
be picked up at many places around the county, and these places will be listed
on the website. During the Tour weekend,
copies may be picked up at the studios and group locations. The map/booklet is
designed to be used both during the event and afterwards, and includes information
about ongoing fine arts activities in Amador County.
The Fine Art and More Raffle, featuring art donations from
all the tour artists, other artists, and donations from local businesses, is
held at the same time. Proceeds from the
raffle are used to fund student art scholarships, a student art show, and
demonstrations of art techniques at ACAA monthly meetings. In 2014, over $4,000 was spent on these
programs. The tour and the raffle are
the ACAA's only fundraiser.
